Chuck Russell will share his conference presentation to the Regional Healthcare Preparedness Coalition in Galveston, TX at the end of 2019 titled, “Delivering Business Continuity Value Beyond Compliance.” Most of the lessons are relevant to all industry practitioners, especially those that must push back against the perspective that business continuity planning is a “check the box exercise” to meet some internal requirement or external regulation.

Are your plans based on fact? Or have you been contributing to the 'disaster fiction' section? Come and find out!

Covid19 on LinkedIn
April 8, 2020
To: Emergency Management and Business Continuity Professionals
The DRIE West community would like to support all our members and emergency management / business continuity colleagues who are engaged directly with the government’s response to COVID19 crisis or leading their organization’s crisis management response.
These are unprecedented times and we are in the midst of writing the response and recovery playbook as this event unfolds. There are many new scenarios and challenges that we as an emergency management community have not come across. During this time more than ever it is essential that DRIE West members have an opportunity to share best practices and recommendations, ask questions and offer advice. To help facilitate this exchange of information, DRIE West is recommending that our members use the DRIE West LinkedIn page as a community forum to exchange information and ask for advice and recommendations.
Although DRIE West members cannot meet as normal during our monthly lunch and learns, we can meet virtually by using our LinkedIn platform to post questions and answers, share best practices and encourage members to connect with each other to address their specific challenges.
The COVID19 crisis may require us to remain physically apart but now more than ever it is important for us as emergency managers to keep connected, support each other virtually and ask for help and offer advice.
Together we will get through this challenge.

DRIE WEST - Third Party Risk and Resilience Presentation
In today’s increasingly interconnected business environment, third party partnerships offer organizations greater agility by reducing service time, enhancing customer experience, or lowering costs. Organizations benefit from the ability to outsource services or functions, however, leadership continues to be responsible for ensuring continuity of business operations, regardless of whether the function is supported in-house or through a third party provider. As a result, organizations using third party providers are facing increasing risk should an event occur that impacts the third party’s ability to adequately fulfill its contractual obligations.
This presentation will explore risks posed by third parties and consider ways to transform risk into opportunities to build resilience and competitive advantage. With effective business continuity planning and exercising, an organization should not only be able to recover from interruption in third party services, but also demonstrate the ability to mitigate third party risk and resume business operations regardless of whether the service is outsourced or performed in-house.
