 Description:

Learn how the affects of a facility fire affected a number of Government of Alberta departmental operations and the valuable lessons learned that you can add to your business continuity planning and response tool kit.

Presenter Bio:

Jayne Galanka

Business Continuity Officer

Alberta Environment and Parks

 Jayne Galanka has over 32 years of experience in the emergency preparedness, response, recovery, business continuity and risk management fields.

 In 1987, Jayne joined Alberta Public Safety Services (now Alberta Emergency Management Agency) as a training officer and instructed on various courses such as Emergency Planning for Municipalities, Emergency Site Management, Dangerous Goods Awareness and Rescue Leaders.  She also participated in the disaster recovery operations after the Edmonton Tornado, Slave Lake Floods and the Calgary Pembrooke area hail storm and floods. While with APSS, Jayne completed post-secondary studies in Adult and Continuing Education. 

 

In 1996, Jayne joined the City of Edmonton and became the municipal Emergency Planning Officer. In addition to her emergency planning and training responsibilities she developed the City’s Y2K emergency response and public impact plan and was part of the team that responded to the Whitemud landslide. 

 Jayne is currently with Alberta Environment and Parks as the Department’s Business Continuity Officer. She has been involved in the department’s preparations for the annual Service Alberta Disaster Recovery Tests and all Alberta Emergency Management Agency annual disaster preparedness exercises. In the 12 years she has been with the department she has managed over 100 departmental responses to business continuity disruptions, the most notable being the WCB Hostage Taking; Fort MacMurray and Waterton Lakes Fires and Calgary floods and most recently the Great West Life Building Fire.
