Presenter Bio:

Ken Hoffer is part of a team developing a province-wide business continuity program across all of Alberta Health Services.

A graduate of the Canadian Emergency Management College in Ottawa, Ken’s first emergency management experience was the Edmonton tornado in 1987 as a member of the Canadian Forces. After 10 years of service, Ken left the military in 1995 and joined the City of Calgary where he worked in various roles in Community and Neighbourhood Services, and the Office of the Mayor. Later, as a member of the Calgary Emergency Management Agency, Ken responded to a variety of events including the Slave Lake wildfire. Ken joined AHS Emergency and Disaster Management in 2012, and responded to the Southern Alberta Floods, Fort McMurray wildfire, and most recently, the Waterton wildfire. Ken is also an advisor to the Emergency Management and Disaster Recovery Course at Mount Royal University.

Ken and his long suffering wife, Shannon, utilize a zone defence in raising their three teenagers and amazing Labrador, and also provide live-in support for a woman with developmental disabilities.

Tobi Martin has been working with colleagues to develop a coordinated psychosocial response for emergency and disaster situations within the Alberta Health Services Calgary Zone.

Tobi is a Registered Psychologist who began her career working with adolescents and their families in the non-profit sector.  She joined Alberta Health Services in 2011 where she works with the Mobile Response Team, a multi-disciplinary mental health crisis team.  The team focuses on crisis intervention and assessment while also providing debriefings for individuals or groups impacted by traumatic events.

Through the Mobile Response Team, Tobi responded in the community and to reception centres during the Southern Alberta Floods.  She also assisted during the Fort McMurray Wildfires by working in Calgary reception centres, and was deployed several times as a Team Lead to assist with the AHS psychosocial response for the community and first responders in Fort McMurray.  Since this time, Tobi has been working on developing the Calgary Zone Psychosocial Response Team for Alberta Health Services.
