RIE Alberta Round-Table Series: The Incident Command System in Public and Private Sector Organizations
Please join RIE Alberta (formerly DRIE WEST) for a stimulating discussion of the Incident Command System (ICS ) model and how it's applied (or not) at both public and private sector organizations.
Developed in the US in the 1970's and widely adopted in Canada over 20 years ago, ICS has become highly standardized for use by both public and private sector organizations for a wide range of emergency and non-emergency applications. Despite its history and breadth of use, some organizations prefer non-ICS or modified-ICS approaches to address challenges presented by the traditional ICS model
Points of discussion may include:
Provide a 2-3 minute overview of your successes and/or challenges with using ICS at your organization
If you use a modified ICS or EOC at your organization, how have these modifications helped to overcome the challenges of using a strict ICS approach?
How do you train staff on ICS or EOC procedures?
How do the characteristics of your organization (e.g., public or private, organization size/complexity, type of industry, etc) inform your incident/emergency management structure?
Has your organization modified its incident/emergency management structure due to lessons learned from COVID or other significant events?
